Last year Generation-A produced The Utah Local Festival of the Arts and brought together more Utah artists and supporters of art then we ever imagined! In spite of last year's difficult economy, we still had thousands of people come out to show support for their love of Utah art!
The UTLFA brought together extremely talented dance, music, cultural heritage and visual artists from all across the state. Local food vendors participated by providing fun and delicious festival fare, and visitors enjoyed local booths while learning about the art of our community. We celebrated some of the best of what Utah has to offer.
Generation-A produced this festival and is comprised of local individuals committed to promoting the vast wealth of performing and visual arts in Utah. Our goal is to offer opportunities for people throughout Utah to attend cultural gatherings while enjoying arts venues in a social and inexpensive way. (For more information, please visit http://www.generation-a.org/).
A few days ago we brought together over 500 people to scream, shout, applaud and cheer for their favorite teams at The Utah Battle of the Improvs that showcased 9 different improv comedy troupes from every corner of the state at the Grand Theatre as they duked it out through laughs, songs and hilarious comedy!
Right now Generation-A is growing at a very fast rate, but with growth comes the need for careful planning. We have expanded our board and have decided to become a non-profit organization. Becoming a non-profit will allow us to seek grants and sponsorship that will fast track our mission and help us to grow larger, last longer and help improve the Utah art community.
Our vision for the next festival is unified. We are committed to making our next festival a multi-day celebration in a venue capable of supporting tens of thousands of visitors, artists, vendors, performers and volunteers. We want to reach more people and showcase the overwhelming support that Utah has for our artists and cultural heritage.
In order to make our dreams, and yours come true, we will need to focus our efforts and energy this quarter on achieving our non-profit status. This will enable us to find more sponsors, donors, grants and partnerships and to create a marketing and media buzz that will be seen throughout the state. As a result, the unified board of Generation-A and the producers of the Utah Local Festival of the Arts are announcing that we have chosen to postpone our October 9th 2010 festival to prepare for a far larger and better version later this year.
